Celebrity Fly Tying
Through the coldest months of the year nearly every Saturday morning beginning at 10:00 and ending at noon a "celebrity" will be demonstrating fly tying at the shop. Hot new patterns, traditional offerings, basic and advanced technique all are on display. It is a great opportunity to pick up a new technique or pattern.
While our definition of "celebrity" may be a little loose, the talent being shown by our tyers is impressive. Dozens of different talents have conducted mini workshops demonstrating how to tie dozens of patterns. From the Copper John to the Elk Hair Caddis you can learn them all. The best part is they are all flies proven to catch fish.
Don't miss our exclusive Tyers Specials. Sales on select product only on Saturday mornings.

Winter Trout Fishing Right Here At Home
The Missouri Department of Conservation, in cooperation with the Columbia Parks and Recreation Department and the local Trout Unlimited chapter came together to create the third year of trout fishing in Columbia. Starting November 1 through January 31st Bethel Park will be open for catch and release fishing followed by an early catch and keep season until the fish are all harvested. November 6th Clearwater was proud support the Kids Day Fishing at Bethel where over 50 kids came to do a little fishing and learn about proper catch and release techniques. See pictures of the day here.
Effective flies include: the all mighty wooly buggers mostly green, leeches in green and black, and red stuff -- let it sink pretty low, a long 8 count before stripping it back should do the trick.
McKay park in Jefferson City also has trout and fishing there has been great. Starting November 1st the 2,400 trout were placed in the pond to be fished in the same season as Columbia. Effective flies include elk hair caddis both natural and green, sub-surface action on wooly buggers and leaches dominates. Again, when stripping back let the fly sink, being patient before beginning the retrieve will pay off.
Catch & Release
Proper catch and release can be as much an art as it is a technique. Clearwater Outfitters is always dedicated to catch and release but for Missouri Winter fishing areas (such as in Columbia and Jefferson City) and beginning when the trout parks open for the winter season --- it is the law. Please review the following for proper technique on catch and release because the intent is fish should survive being caught!
